Common Questions About School Labels

What school labels do kids actually need?

For most students, you need labels in four different sizes: a large rectangle for the lunchbox and backpack exterior, a slim rectangle for water bottles and medium containers, an extra-small rectangle for smaller supplies and the calculator, and a small round for every lid. Pencil labels for pencils, markers, and crayons come separately. Our school label packs include all these sizes in one order — our Ultimate School Label Pack (134 labels) covers grades K–8 comprehensively, while our School Essentials Pack (67 labels) is sized for grades 5 through high school. Both include pencil labels.

Are school labels dishwasher safe?

Yes — all our waterproof school name labels are dishwasher safe, microwave safe, and freezer safe. They’re also tear resistant. Apply to a clean, dry surface, run a fingertip along every edge, and cure for 24 hours before the first dishwasher cycle. After that they hold through the full school year without peeling, fading, or losing adhesion. They work on plastic, glass, and metal — water bottles, thermoses, lunchboxes, containers, and every other hard surface heading to school.

When should I order back to school labels?

Order in June or July — school starts in August and the labels need 24 hours to cure before the first dishwasher cycle. Ordering early means you can run one labeling session in July with everything fully bonded and ready before the first day. Back to school label orders spike in late July and August, and late orders regularly arrive after school has already started. Our school label packs ship in 1–2 business days year-round, but ordering early gives you the best chance at your first design choice and the most relaxed labeling experience.

Do school labels include clothing labels?

No — our school label packs contain waterproof name labels for hard surfaces only: water bottles, lunchboxes, pencils, containers, folders, and school supplies. Clothing labels for school uniforms, PE kit, and jackets are ordered separately. Our iron-on clothing labels bond permanently into fabric for uniforms and PE kit; our original Peel ‘n Stix stick-on clothing labels press onto care tags in seconds for jackets and outerwear. Most families order a school label pack and a sheet of clothing labels together to cover everything heading to school.

Which school label pack is right for my child?

For preschool and kindergarten: our Kindergarten Label Pack (116 labels in 7 sizes) is the only pack built specifically for this age — it includes pencil labels sized for large kindergarten pencils and crayons, plus shoe labels in the matching design. For grades 1–8: the Ultimate School Label Pack (134 labels) gives comprehensive coverage of every supply. For grades 5–12: the School Essentials Pack (67 labels) is the right volume for selective coverage of the supplies that matter most. New to name labels? Our Starter Pack (58 labels) is a great first order with our most popular sizes.

Can I split a school label pack between two kids?

Yes — type “Split” in the name field and list both children’s names in the Special Request box at checkout. We’ll divide the labels evenly and sort them by child. Each child can choose their own design. Splitting the Ultimate Pack gives approximately 67 labels per child — similar to ordering one Essentials Pack per child. For full coverage of two children, two packs (one each) is the most complete option.

Do school labels work on pencils?

Yes — but only if you use the right size. Standard rectangular or round labels are too wide for a pencil barrel and will overlap the edges and peel immediately. Our pencil labels are sized specifically for the narrow barrel of a standard pencil, pen, marker, or crayon. They wrap cleanly and hold through the daily handling of a school year. The Essentials, Ultimate, and Kindergarten packs all include pencil labels. If your child has a large art supply set or a full set of colored pencils, our standalone sheet of 90 pencil labels is available separately.
