Common Questions About Name Labels

Are name labels waterproof?

Yes — all our personalized name labels are 100% waterproof. They’re designed for the surfaces that get wet every day: water bottles, lunchboxes, sippy cups, thermos lids, containers, and ice packs. They’re also dishwasher safe, microwave safe, and freezer safe — the three things that matter most for anything heading to school or daycare. Apply to a clean, dry surface, run a fingertip along every edge, and cure for 24 hours before the first dishwasher cycle. After that, they hold through the full year without peeling or fading.

What surfaces do waterproof name labels stick to?

Our waterproof name stickers work on plastic, glass, and metal — the three materials that cover virtually every school and daycare supply. Water bottles, stainless steel thermoses, glass containers, plastic lunchboxes, sippy cups, ice packs, folders, and calculators are all fair game. They don’t work on silicone, rubber, or fabric — for fabric, see our clothing labels. For silicone bottles, the label goes on the plastic lid or any smooth non-silicone area of the bottle rather than the silicone body.

How do I apply name stickers so they stay on?

Clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely. Peel the label and press it firmly onto the surface. Run a fingertip along every edge — this is the most important step, because lifted edges are the only way these labels peel. Let the label cure for 24 hours at room temperature before exposing it to water, the dishwasher, or a sterilizer. Labels applied to dirty, oily, or damp surfaces won’t bond as well, so the prep is worth the extra minute.

What size name label do I need?

The right size depends on the surface. Large rectangle for lunchboxes and backpack exterior tags. Slim rectangle for water bottle bodies, folders, and medium containers. Extra-small rectangle for calculators, scissors, small supplies, and anything too narrow for a slim rectangle. Small round for every lid — water bottle lids, lunchbox container lids, and ice packs all need their own label because lids get separated constantly. Pencil labels for pencils, markers, and crayons. If you’re not sure which sizes you need, our school label packs include all the sizes in the right quantities for a full school year.

Are name stickers safe for kids?

Yes — our waterproof name labels are non-toxic and food safe for surfaces that come into contact with food and drinks. They’re designed for daily use on children’s belongings in schools and daycare centers, and they comply with standards for products used in those environments. Our labels are designed to be removable with intentional effort by adults. Always supervise young children to ensure safe use of labels on their belongings.

Can I get name labels for a water bottle?

Yes — and you need two labels per bottle, not one. A slim rectangle label on the body of the bottle identifies it. A small round label on the lid identifies the lid separately, because lids and bottles get separated in the dishwasher, on cafeteria tables, and in shared spaces constantly. An unlabeled lid is a lost lid. Our water bottle labels are sized specifically for the body and lid of standard water bottles, and they’re dishwasher safe, so they hold through the daily cycle without lifting at the edges.

What is the difference between name labels and clothing labels?

Name labels (waterproof stickers) go on hard surfaces: plastic, glass, and metal. They’re for bottles, lunchboxes, containers, school supplies, and everything in the bag. Clothing labels go on fabric: iron-on labels bond directly into the fabric permanently, while stick-on clothing labels apply to the care tag or tagless imprint — both are laundry safe. You need both for complete coverage — name labels for the supplies and clothing labels for the clothes, socks, PE kit, and shoes. Most families order a label pack (which covers the supplies) and a sheet of clothing labels at the same time.
